26 May 2010 | DUCARES in the 2010 Dutch SME Innovation Top 100

DUCARES has ended on position 82 in the 2010 Dutch SME Innovation Top 100. A total number of 370 innovations were nominated. DUCARES is developing a research method which can be used to test biopharmaceuticals in humans in a safe manner. In an early stage of drug development the most interesting biopharmaceuticals for human use can be selected and optimized.

8 February 2010 | DUCARES receives a EuroTransBio grant

DUCARES has received a EuroTransBio grant. In collaboration with the French company Glycode an analytical platform will be developed for use in the optimization of glycosylation profiles of therapeutic proteins in an early stage of the drug development process.

15 January 2010 | DUCARES signs rental agreement for new location

On 15 January 2010 DUCARES has signed a rental agreement with Vitens for the rental of a part of the Vitens laboratory (Reactorweg 47A, Utrecht, The Netherlands). Turnaround of the laboratory will start soonest. Already in spring 2010 DUCARES will leave its current location at TNO Quality of Life in Zeist and move to the new location.

19 June 2009 | DUCARES recognized laboratory for the conduct of analyses with regard to the Dutch Regulation 'Monitoring critical substances' in calves and pigs

DUCARES is pleased with the recognition by the Dutch Product Board Cattle and Meat for the conduct of analyses with regard to the Regulation 'Monitoring Critical Substances' in calves and pigs 2008.

As the only laboratory in the Netherlands, DUCARES has a full recognition for both the calf and the pig sector, thus remaining the preferred supplier for producers of Dutch meat and meat products.

Critical substances are anabolics (growth promoters), banned substances, residues of veterinary drugs (antibiotics) and contaminants.

DUCARES has become member of the Food Valley Society. Food Valley brings together knowledge, enterprise and innovation in the Dutch agro-food sector. Food Valley fosters innovation by:

• helping individual food companies with their innovation questions by putting them in touch with the right research institutes and their partners.
• bringing together businesses and research institutes in goal-oriented clusters.
• exchanging knowledge and ideas of Food Valley Society members.
• supporting the establishment of new food companies.

15 December 2008 | DUCARES participates in a research project to the effects of antibiotics on soil quality

DUCARES participates in a research project to determine the effects of antibiotics on soil quality (http://www.agd.nl/1066556/Nieuws/Artikel/Onderzoek-naar-effecten-van-antibiotica-op-de-bodemkwaliteit.htm). This project is sponsored by SKB (http://www.skbodem.nl).

Geofox-Lexmond (http://www.geofox-lexmond.nl) is project leader of the project. Other members of the consortium are: VEWIN, FIDIN, LTO, Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, Province of Overijssel, Province of Drenthe, KNMvD, IRAS, Alterra, CML, RIVM and TNO/Deltares.

1 October 2008 | DUCARES represented at the 6th Eurachem workshop on Proficiency Testing

The question on how frequently should laboratories participate in Proficiency Tests will be discussed during the 6th Eurachem workshop on Proficiency Testing in analytical chemistry, microbiology and laboratory medicin (6-7 October 2008 in Rome, Italy). Kees van Putten, member of the scientific committee and project leader of DUCARES for the Dutch KDLL proficiency testing project, will be one of the moderators in this discussion.

1 September 2008 | New scientific staff member to join DUCARES

As per 1 September 2008 analytical chemist Dr. Robert-Jan Lamers will join DUCARES.
Robert-Jan successfully defended his dissertation on 13 April 2005 at Leiden University on "Biomarker Discovery in Life Sciences" with Prof. Dr. Jan van der Greef as his promotor.
He has worked for TNO Quality of Life (Zeist, The Netherlands), Philips Research (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) and Erasmus MC (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) in the field of biomarker discovery using metabolomics, bio-informatics and multivariate analysis.

15 August 2008 | NEN-EN-ISO/IEC 17025 and ILAC G13:2007 accreditations continued

After re-assessment by the Dutch Board for Accreditation (RvA) on 8 and 9 April, the management of the RvA has decided, based on the findings of the inspection team, to continue both DUCARES' accreditations.

16 May 2008 | Key lecture by Robert Schilt at ER VI

Robert Schilt from DUCARES will give a key lecture at the EuroResidue VI conference about the use of liquid chromatography in combinatuion with high resolution mass spectrometry in residue analysis. The research has been conducted in cooperation with TNO Quality of Life.

DUCARES is one of the main sponsors of EuroResidue VI conference, held on 19-21 May 2008 at Hotel Zuiderdam in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands. The conference covers all aspects concerning residues of veterinary drugs such as analytical techniques, pharmacological and toxicological studies, registration and regulation, and others. Special emphasis is laid upon recent developments with respect to detection and determination of drug residues in any matrix.

08+09 April 2008 | Successful re-assessment by the RvA

The Dutch Board for Accreditation (RvA) has carried out a re-assessment of DUCARES' ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and ILAC G13:2007 accreditations. The result of the audit was highly successful.
