DUCARES is a young and ambitious company, founded on January 1, 2008 through the independence of two experienced groups of TNO Quality of Life, namely Hormones and Veterinary Medicines. The company employs 15 trained professionals.

The experience of DUCARES includes both the execution of analytical chemical research, in a broad sense, and advice.

Originally, DUCARES operated in the entire food safety chain: setting up the controls, performing the analyses, up to the interpretation of the results closely aligned with (legal) advice to the customer. This distinguishes DUCARES from laboratories that limit themselves to simple analyses of samples only.

The consumer, producer and government demand safe food. DUCARES contributes to this by analyzing dozens of products of mainly animal origin on a daily basis. Very advanced mass spectrometric (MS) and qPCR equipment is used for this.

Advantages of mass spectrometric equipment:
  • Detecting (traces of) an unwanted substance
  • Determining very specifically which substance is concerned
  • Determining the quantity in which this substance is present
  • Reliable and legally accepted determination of prohibited substances, for example in the context of contra-expertise research. Think of growth promoters such as beta agonists (including clenbuterol, salmeterol and zilpaterol). Or antibiotics such as nitrofurans (furaltadone, furazolidone, nitrofurantoin and nitrofurazone) and chloramphenicol. These substances are absolutely prohibited for livestock.
  • Reliable and legally accepted determination of the quantity of a permitted substance or exceeding the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) value
To make and keep the entire animal production chain safer, we analyze not only samples of animal origin, but also feed, milk and water samples. This prevents an animal from ingesting unwanted (amounts of) substances. In this way, DUCARES contributes to improving food safety and quality and animal health and welfare.
Animal welfare and animal health are closely linked. Proper nutrition, (medical) care and housing affect both. The husbandry of most livestock is becoming increasingly intensive. This raises social questions that need to be answered. Such as whether veterinary medicines are used for health management. Or to mask / conceal / correct zootechnical imperfection?
A piece of meat or a glass of milk should not only be tasty, safe and of good quality. Responsible production is also important to the consumer. That is why we try to gain insight into the health and welfare status of animals using analytical animal parameters in close collaboration with other research centers, like Leiden University and Wageningen University (WUR/WFSR).
When it comes to research into veterinary medicines, residues and contaminants in products of animal origin and animal nutrition, you have come to the right place. In addition to routine analyses, we also provide support with regard to analytical questions. Veterinary advice in various phases of basic research is also part of the DUCARES 'field of activity’.
Are you looking for a laboratory that can perform mass spectrometric measurements under ISO conditions? Are you looking for a laboratory that can perform research-driven analyses in addition to routine analyses? For example, for the development and quality assurance of veterinary medicines?
DUCARES can help you with this. Our skilled employees have broad knowledge in the veterinary field. In addition, they have extensive experience with the various facets of veterinary drug development and the related construction of a registration dossier.

DUCARES is ISO17025: 2005 accredited for lab operations. A complete overview has been published on the website of the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA).

DUCARES maintains the utmost confidentiality with regard to the data generated for its customers. Independence and impartiality towards our clients are paramount important.
